Romantic Glass and Garlic

A while back JF and I celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary. Five years seems like a nice accomplishment, so we marked the occasion with a special outing.

We took a beginner class in glass-blowing from Flo Studio in Ottawa. We got to pick our coloured glass bits, help roll the glass in the furnace, then blow the glass into an ornamental ball. It was a very interesting experience, and very hot near those furnaces.

Our colour piles.

The colours change when they are heated, so we didn't really know what they were going to look like until we picked them up later, after a week's cooling. Here's what we ended up with:

Our garden marked the occasion for us too - check out these entwined garlic scapes I found during that week.

Speaking of garlic, this week I harvested our backyard garlic and JF and I went to a garlic harvest party at Our Little Farm. We're stocked for the year's cooking and this fall's planting.
